Whatever your feelings about Science and Technology, you’ll surely have to admit that there have been some startlingly brilliant advances in this field of human endeavor… and some not so brilliant. The splitting of the atom and the advance of the nuclear arms race as a result will surely go down in history as one of the catastrophic disasters to arise out of Humanity’s exploration of the environment in which it lives… and yet which are the advances that have truly helped Humanity to come to a deeper understanding of itself? What advances have actually contributed to an increase in happiness around the world? The mobile telephone? Internet? Cars? Washing machines? Genetically modified foods?? Which advances do you truly consider have had the effect of making Humanity happier?

In this day of depleting fossil fuel energy, technological advances now afford us further ways to blast the energy out of the Planet that plays host to us – is the technology behind the system of fracking a good or bad technology?  We have to make up our own minds as to how useful the new science and technological advances are going to be, not just for us as individuals, but also for us as Humanity. As we increase our population of the world and demand begins to outstrip supply, are the technological advances we are seeing the right ones?

A lot of the science and technology, and the actual mechanisms behind the advancements, are beyond our understanding as general citizens and non-scientists, though they do have a dramatic impact on the way we live our daily lives. Are we simply consumers of what we are told will make us happier? How involved do we need to be? Are we simply happy to wait patiently for the release of the next batch of software updates for our computers… which we have to download, because we have become so addicted to them being a part of our life?…

  • I am looking for people to help write new memes for the Science Sector of the Wheel of Co-Creation. We have already completed the Spirituality Sector and The Economic Sector. The Health Care is underway.  It is most helpful to have a least two people who have their profession in  this sector, ie. a doctor and a nurse will participate with me in writing the health care memes.  It doesn't take much time...3-3.5 hours of phone conversation or Zoom, and an hour of individual writing.  If you are interested please email me at: lauriezhyland@hotmail.com

    Blessings, Laurie

    • To me, William McDonough (co-author of Cradle to Cradle) made the best statement of what we want from science:

"What we seek is a delightfully diverse, safe, healthy and just world, with clean water, air, soil and power, that is economically, equitably, ecologically, and elegantly enjoyed by all children, of all species, for all time."
